Meetings 2019-2020

12/21/19 Christmas Meeting

Cokesbury Church

15092 Cokesbury Road

Georgetown, DE 19947

This will be an open-mike sort of meeting (without the microphone). Please bring your best writing (something short) for a reading and let your light shine. We won't be critiquing manuscripts this time but will be discussing the things that are read.

One of the most important things we will do at this meeting is to solicit volunteers to fill a variety of roles for 2020. Primarily, we're seeking commitments for facilitators and/or providing refreshments for the following dates (3rd Saturday): January 18, April 18, May 16, June 20, July 18, (no meeting in August), September 19, November 21, and December 19.

DIRECTIONS TO COKESBURY CHURCH (15092, Rd 529, Georgetown, DE 19947): From Rt. 113, go westbound on Rte 404, past the Del Tech campus. The church is at the intersection of 404 and Cokesbury Rd, just before Crossroad Church. If you are heading east on 404 it is just past Crossroad Church at the Cokesbury Rd. intersection. It is a white church; the parking lot is on the side.

REFRESHMENTS: This is our Christmas meeting, and thanks to the tradition that David Smith initiated decades ago, all who attend are encouraged to bring holiday goodies. In addition to sweets, please consider offerings that would be suitable for lunch. Mmmm.

1/18/20 Change

Stephanie Bradley will facilitate the January DCWF meeting

Stephanie has chosen an appropriate topic for the New Year: Change. She has written a short analogy about driving on the highway to start our discussion and is equipped with supporting Scriptures.

DCWF CHANGES: For its entire existence, Delmarva Christian Writers has functioned casually. In 2020, we will establish some formal parameters but strive to retain the friendly, flexible approach we have always enjoyed. One of the changes in DCWF will be a Statement of Faith, posted below so you can review it prior to the meeting.

CRITIQUES: If time permits, we will critique manuscripts. If interested, please bring 20 copies of a maximum of three (3) double-spaced pages with one-inch margins and 12-pt. font. Also, please use the Line Numbering feature in Microsoft Word for your manuscript (go to Layout and click Line Numbering).

MEETING SCHEDULE for 2020 (see below). In December, we got a good start in identifying facilitators but still need volunteers to provide refreshments. Please prayerfully consider if you can make a commitment to help with refreshments on March 21, April 18, May 16, June 20, July 18, September 19, and November 21.

CONFERENCE. We will host our second Christian Writers Conference in October, and if anyone is interested in serving on the committee, please let me know.

Refreshments for this month's meeting are provided by Betty Kasperski and Judi Folmsbee.

2/15/20 Spiritual Warfare and Your Writing

Jill Mansor, guest speaker, author of Fighting for the Finish
Feeling oppressed, depressed, and just plain worn out? Overcome these enemies with the ONLY ONE who will fight for you! Be equipped, empowered and strengthened!
Jill Mansor has an intriguing testimony that will have you glued to your seat. But what she learned in her first year of salvation catapulted her into the stratosphere of spiritual warfare. No matter the attack, Jill will walk you through to victory! Get a front-row seat, you do not want to miss this!

DCWF CHANGES: For its entire existence, Delmarva Christian Writers has functioned casually. In 2020, we are establishing some formal parameters but strive to retain the friendly, flexible approach we have always enjoyed. One of the changes in DCWF is that agreeing to our Statement of Faith is now a requirement for membership. Those who don't wish to sign will be guests. It's posted below so you can review it prior to the meeting.

ANNUAL MEETING: We will have our first Association meeting in April for the purpose of electing members to our Board of Directors. A process is being developed for nominations, and we'll keep you posted.

CONFERENCE. We will be hosting our second Christian Writers Conference, but 2020 will be a planning year. If anyone is interested in serving on the committee, please let me know.

Refreshments for this month's meeting are provided by Candy Abbott and Stephanie Bradley.

10/17/20 Lots to Discuss. Lots to Pray About!

Cat Stenger Martin, facilitator of our October meeting
DCWA lives! Tunnell Hall is open to us again, praise the Lord, and we're on the schedule for October, November, and December.

As we catch up after all these months, Cat Martin will help us focus on prayer and praise in our writing to set the tone.

Please bring your own snack and drink (and maybe something to share) while we rethink the refreshment schedule. Also, bring cleaning supplies so we can leave everything spic 'n span.

When we left off before COVID-19 butted in to disrupt everything, we were in the middle of DCWA NOMINATIONS. Let's talk about how we want to approach this and schedule our annual meeting.

CONFERENCE. The 2021 Christian Writers Conference is in question. Let's talk about that, too.

12/19/20 "Who Am I?"

Fred Hageman, facilitator of our January meeting

Fred Hageman will facilitate our November meeting on Saturday and has given his teaching an intriguing title, "Who Am I?" This appears to be a simple question, yet it has profound implications for both our Christian walk and our secular life. How do Scripture and history highlight the importance of how we answer the question? Fred will illustrate the impact with a personal story as well as Biblical direction and a lesson from history.

If we have enough members in attendance on Saturday, we will vote on our slate of officers for the DCWA Board of Directors: Candy Abbott, President; Lisa Falkner, Vice President; Judi Folmsbee, Secretary; Betty Kasperski, Treasurer. No one has volunteered for the position of Public Relations Officer, so please give that some consideration.

Delaware COVID-19 guidelines allow for 30 people to be present in a public setting, and we will social distance, wearing masks whenever milling around.

Hope to see you on Saturday!

Here's where you can enter in text. Feel free to edit, move, delete or add a different page element.
